Monsanto Bike Escape

Lisbon – Panoramico Monsanto – Belem – Lisbon

Duration:

4h from Lisbon

Distance:

28 km

Climb:

400 m

Difficulty:

moderate / sporty

This ride is a mix out of city tour city tour and MTB tour. As big as the whole city center and only 30 bike minutes away from the center, Monsanto Park is the ideal place for a quick escape from the city rush!

Coming from the waterfront, we have atime lapse city tour: Alfama, Baixa, Avenida, Parque Eduardo and Amoreiras in only 30min. Behind the historic aqueduct we enter the massive Monsanto Park. We challenge ourselfs a bit on the trails through the forest and climb up to one of the best views to Lisbon: an abandond sanatorium allows us to see all over Lisbon, Cascais, Odivelas and Sintra. Finally we go down on a flow singletrail to leave the park in Belem. From here a cruise along the river shows us a few of Lisbons most famous spots and leads us easily back to the center.

Around Cascais we find smoove cycling lanes and rough mountainbike trails. This is where I’m home. Since years I live in this great area between the blue Atlantic and the green Serra de Sintra. Since even longer I spend every free minute at Serra de Sintra and found an uncountable number of ways and trails.
Normally this ride starts in Cascais and lasts 3h. We leave the historic town of Cascais at the wind protected interior through luxury mansions and green forests. Once we reach Guincho Beach we can decide if we extend our loop into Serra de Sintra or if we return on the cycling lane along the coast. The coast is breathtaking and the flat cycling lane the best way to enjoy it! Views reach from Cabo da Roca, over Santuario da Peninha to Palacio da Pena in Sintra.

This is a tour we can be 100% personalize. It can be a smoove 2h ride along the coast in Cascais or a 6h mountainbnd the right route for you!

Three hours are enough to get a real mountainbike escape from the city rush!  Cascais is the end of the urban zone of Lisbon. After only a few minutes we leave the city behind and find ourselfs in the natural and rural zone of Quinta do Pisao and Serra de Sintra. The perfect recreation zone and a real trail paradise with the coast always nearby.

Through traditional villages we reach the protected area of Quinta do Pisao. On dirt roads and a few easy singletrails we cross this area covered by wide fields, pine, olive and eucalyptus forests in the beautiful rural scenery between the natural park of Sintra and the ocean.
